About

Science moves fast. We read it so you don't have to.

Science Brew is a daily briefing on what actually happened in science, technology and medicine, written for curious people who don't have a PhD and don't want one.

What's in it

Eleven stories every morning, in four sections: Science for discoveries and research, Tech for what's being built and what it means, Medical for health and clinical findings, and World for the bigger picture. Roughly five minutes end to end.

Where it comes from

Every morning we read across fourteen sources, Nature, Quanta, Phys.org, ScienceDaily, Ars Technica, STAT, TechCrunch, The Verge, Medical Xpress, the BBC and others. Not headlines: the actual articles. Then we pick the eleven stories worth your attention and explain them in plain language.

How we handle the science

Research reporting goes wrong in predictable ways, so we have rules about it. If a result is preliminary, we say so. If the sample was small, we say how small. If it was in mice, we say it was in mice. A promising early finding is described as a promising early finding, not a breakthrough.

Every story links to the original reporting or paper, woven into the sentence rather than dumped at the end. If something grabs you, the source is one click away, and you should go read it.

Who makes it

Science Brew is written and edited by Dylan Dance. Every issue is reviewed by a human before it sends. Nothing reaches your inbox unread.
